Aldo Bernardis - Architecture in Lignano 1953-2003 by Giulio Avon

The intense activity of architect Aldo Bernardis in the seaside resort designed by Marcello D'Olivo is highlighted in this investigation. 

Bernardis is credited with creating many iconic locations in Lignano, which contribute to its tourist representation. The Yachting Club, the Tourist Office, the Terrazza a Mare, the Kursaal, the President Hotel, and Marina Uno are powerful and representative backdrops.

These buildings celebrate leisure and recreation, and for the most loyal visitors of Lignano, they have become so familiar that they are now an integral part of the vacation landscape.

The Association "Raggi e ArchiTetture - Ville di Lignano" has contributed to the creation of this volume through the involvement of Architect Giulio Avon.

Giulio Avon (1956) is an architect whose work includes the restoration of the Esedra di Levante at Villa Manin in Passariano, the former Monte di Pietà, the Major Cemetery and the Cathedral complex in Cividale del Friuli, the Castle of Valvasone (PN), the reconstruction of the Savorgnan Castle in Artegna, and the recent redevelopment of Piazza Ursella in Lignano. He has designed exhibition setups for shows on Carlo Ramous (Milan Triennale 2017; Malpensa 2018); Floriano Ponte of Art and Faith (Illegio 2014) and, with Gianni and Elena Avon, Palmanova Fortress of Europe (Palmanova 1993); The Lombards (Cividale del Friuli 1990); Sebastiano Ricci (Villa Manin Passariano, 1989). He co-authored, with Ferruccio Luppi, the volume Dentro Lignano, Percorsi di Architettura, Gaspari, Udine, 2019.
